China passes its first law against domestic violence

In a landmark decision, China’s Parliament on Monday adopted the country’s first law against domestic violence, bringing traditionally silent abuse victims, including couples who are in live-in relationship, under legal protection.The new law, passed by the Chinese national legislature, prohibits any form of domestic violence, including psychological abuse.

38-year-old Cristina Ojeda-Thies suffered a shark attack while swimming off the popular resort of Gran Canaria. She tweeted a photo showing the scars on her hand where the shark had sunk its teeth, 'Today I've had a face to face meeting with a shark. Things that happen when you swim in the Canaries in December.' she tweeted Authorities feared the incident could impact tourism and downplayed the incident. Fernando Frias, president of Canary Islands Shark Alliance which promotes shark conservation, said the incident is a 'one-off'. 'I doubt something like this will happen again in the next 50 years so people shouldn't be afraid.'

Emeka Anyaoku Anyaoku made the remark in a signed statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), yesterday, in Abuja. He expressed hope that the pervading insecurity in Nigeria would be brought under control. Police arrest soldier for supplying arms to robbers

A Lance Corporal of the Nigeria Army was among eight persons arrested by the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response  Team, SIRT for allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to robbers in Lagos. Among those the gang allegedly supplied arms were those  robbers who raided commercial banks in Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbara areas of Lagos and Ogun State, where they carted away large sums of money, recently.

Ebola Virus Guinea declared free of disease that killed over 2,500

  Guinea was declared free of Ebola on Tuesday after more than 2,500 people died from the virus in the West African nation, leaving Liberia as the only country still awaiting a countdown for the end of the epidemic. People in the capital, Conakry, greeted the declaration by authorities and the U.N. World Health Organization with mixed emotions given the deaths and the damage the virus did to the economy and the country's health and education sectors. "Several of my family are dead. This situation has shown us how much we must fight for those who are survivors," Fanta Oulen Camara, who works for Medecins Sans Frontieres Belgium (Doctors Without Borders), told Reuters.

Boko Haram Military confirms suicide bomb attack in Madagali

  Brig.-Gen Victor Ezugwu, Brigade Commander, 28 Task Force Brigade, Mubi, has confirmed that two female suicide bombers on Monday detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Madagali village in Adamawa. "Two female suicide bombers struck at a motor park in Madagali and detonated their devices and we lost some beloved country men," he said. Ezugwu, who did not disclose the number of casualties, however stated that the situation had been brought under control and that security had been beefed up in the town. He urged the people to vigilant and security conscious.
