Imo Lawmaker: I did not sell FUTO,s land

LAWMA Mr Victor Onyewuchi, representing Owerri West Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday denied involvement in the sale of land belonging to the Federal University of Technology Oweri (FUTO). Onyewuchi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri that the allegation was politically motivated.

Military source: Hijacked ship not in Nigeria

The merchant ship, MT LEON DIAS that was allegedly hijacked by gunmen is current off the Coast of Cotonou in the Benin Republic.Nigerian military sources disclosed that the ship which is a chemical/oil tanker is currently under the custody of the Beninois Navy.

Delta communities urged to support growth of higher institutions

Governing Council, Delta State School of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli, Dr. Nelson Ejakpovi, has charged host communities to partner institutions of higher learning in the development process of schools in their areas. Giving the charge when he led members of the Governing Council and management of the school to pay a courtesy visit on the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Oharisi III, Ejakpovi stressed the need for some of the projects earmarked by interventionist agencies to be executed in the host communities to be sited in the institutions.

IPOB, MASSOB deny alleged seizure of merchant ship — Biafra

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, yesterday, denied  alleged involvement in the seizing and threat to blowing up a merchant ship carrying foreigners. IPOB Media and Publicity Officer, Mr. Emma Powerful said IPOB is a non violent group with responsible men in  the society in Nigeria and in diaspora as members and therefore, cannot involve in any violent activity that may possibly harm or take the life of anybody from within and outside Nigeria.

'through sex' infection — Zika virus: reported in US

A patient infected in Dallas, Texas, is likely to have been infected by sexual contact, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) told the BBC. The person had not travelled to infected areas but their partner had returned from Venezuela. Zika is carried by mosquitoes and has been linked to thousands of babies being born with underdeveloped brains. It is spreading through the Americas and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the disease linked to the virus a global public health emergency. The American Red Cross has meanwhile urged prospective blood donors returning from Zika-hit countries to wait at least 28 days before donating their blood. The "self-deferral" should apply to people returning from Mexico, the Caribbean or Central or South America during the past four weeks, the Red Cross said in a statement. Prosecutors in Brazil are recommending that football star Neymar be charged over four counts of fraud in relation to a tax case prior to his transfer to Barcelona in 2013. It is alleged that companies were set up as fronts in order for the striker to pay a lower rate of tax. Officials in Brazil say the allegations against the Barcelona striker cover a seven-year period from 2006.
