New electricity tariff: Buhari may face first Labour showdown as NLC, TUC spit fire

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and the Electricity Consumer Protection Forum gave the warning at a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos. Ayuba Wabba, NLC president, said that labour would mobilse workers and civil society groups to protest and picket all the electricity distribution companies should the federal government implement the tariff as scheduled on February 1.

Police confirm kidnap of Delta monarch, King Umukoro Josiah

The Delta Police Command on Friday confirmed the kidnap of King Umukoro Josiah, Aghaza 1 of Olomoro in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Celestina Kalu confirmed the abduction of the monarch in text messages sent to newsmen in Warri.

Bomb blast rocks Gombi, Adamawa as Eight killed many injured

Two suicide bombers on Friday afternoon blew up themselves at the grain section of the international market in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing eight persons and injuring twenty-eight others.The Northeast Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, had earlier said that eight persons died while twenty-seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The attack is suspected to have been masterminded by Boko Haram insurgents as the market, which attracts people from Cameroon and other neighbouring countries, is in a local government that shares boundary with the dreaded Sambisa forest.
