Appeal Court sacks Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, declares APGA’s Alex Otti winner

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Owerri, has removed Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party as governor of Abia State. The court also declared Alex Otti of the All Progressives Grand Alliance  the winner of the April 11 and April 25 supplementary elections in the state. Delivering judgment in an appeal filed by Mr. Otti, the five-member panel, headed by Justice Oyebisi Omoleye, said the APGA candidate scored 164, 444 valid votes to defeat Mr. Ikpeazu who scored 114, 444 votes.

Journalist petitions police over alleged blackmail by female officer

A member of the Enugu State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Callistus Ebue has petitioned the Police over alleged harassment and intimidation by a female police officer following his refusal to bribe her. Ebue said that the police woman who was investigating a case of alleged “misdemeanour and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace,” brought against him by  one James Oparaekeocha, has asked him to pay some money into her personal account in a commercial bank or face prosecution for a more serious offence.

Kanu never apologised to President Buhari —Father, IPOB

F ATHER of detained Biafran activist, Nnamdi Kanu, His Royal Majesty, Eze Israel Kanu, has denied reports that his detained son has apologised to President Mohammadu Buhari for allegedly referring to him as a terrorist. Also, the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, dismissed the same report, saying that their leader had at no time apologised to President Buhari.

Mixed reactions trail reduction in pump price of petrol

Mixed reactions,  yesterday, trailed the announcement by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA)  that petrol will now sell for N86.50 in January 2016 with some Nigerians hailing the decision while others argued that it was nothing to celebrate. In its reaction, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the reduction as  a continuation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government by deception In a statement, yesterday, by PDP National Publicity Secretary,  Chief Olisa Metuh, the party noted that besides its deceptive element, the reduction in the N87per litre pump price to N86 and N86.50 per litre for the retail outlets of the NNPC and retail outlets of private business concerns respectively offered too little to cheer.
