Suicide bomber kills 13 inside mosque in Cameroon

No fewer than 13 people were killed in a suicide bomb attack suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram members inside a mosque in the Far Northern region of Cameroon this morning. "The suicide attack took place at 5:40 a.m. (2340 ET) in a mosque at Kouyape. There were 13 deaths including the man who blew himself up and one wounded," a senior Cameroonian official who declined to be identified told Reuters.

Eight Nigerian alleged oil thieves deported from Ghana

Eight Nigerian pirates identified as Molih William, Molilh, Klinsman, David Jacob, Amos Ebiyaibo, Aki Peggy John Picolo, Ayetimili Oyinle and Pinano Saniyu, have been deported by the Ghanaian authorities. The Nigerians were arrested following a complaint lodged by the Nigerian owner of a vessel, Sunday Nakase who said the men had stolen his oil ves­sel, MT Mariam, together with its crude oil contents and directed the crew to steer to an undisclosed destination.

No budget is missing: Said by Senate chairman

Chairman, Senate Committee on Media And Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi has said that no statement made by any Senator during the plenary today can be interpreted to mean an admission that the 2016 budget is missing. He said there is no budget missing and that the Senate will  tomorrow  ( Thursday ) distribute copies of the budget to all the Senators so as to arm them to properly contribute to the debate which will take place between Tuesday . January 19 to Thursday, January 21, 2016.

Senate fixes January 19 for commencement of debate on 2016 budget

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has said the senate will commence debate on the 2016 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari as from Tuesday 19th January.Saraki, on Wednesday made the announcement during plenary. A tweet from the Twitter account of the Nigerian Senate, reads, “Senate President @bukolasaraki announces that the debate of #2016AppropriationBill will commence on Tuesday 19th January 2016.” This disclosure follows viral reports that both the hard and soft copies of the 2016 budget documents Buhari presented to the National Assembly had gone missing.

Buhari insincere with anti-corruption war —Yakassai

Elder statesman and Presidential Liaison Officer in the Second Republic, Dr Tanko Yakassai, has described the anti-corruption efforts of the Muhammadu Buhari administration as a mere propaganda war, lamenting it has unfortunately won over right thinking men like Prof. Wole Soyinka. Dr. Yakassai, who also chairs the Northern Elders’ Council, speaking with Vanguard in Abuja said any fight against corruption must be holistic rather than being centred on just an individual. He chided the Buhari administration for its open disdain for valid court orders urging him to obey all court orders relating to the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd). According to him, Buhari can only be taken serious if he extends his dragnet across the inter-party divide as well as to other tiers of government.
