Only a fortnight ago, former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, visited Benue state where he spent three days in the state as a guest of the state governor and was amongst other things hosted to a state house dinner. The former president, who was claimed to have come into the state for academic purposes, was welcomed at the airport by the Chief of Staff to the Governor even as the governor had taken off that day for Abuja but the Deputy Governor was in town.

Police in the Birmingham area have launched an investigation into the occurrence following the terrifying attack which took place on Christmas morning. Police already began intense scouring of the area for clues after the incident The mass pub brawl was quite a deadly one, leaving a man dead after he was pitilessly stabbed in the chest and another unconscious after being brutally battered at the Old Horns Pub, Birmingham.

The Anambra Police Command said on Friday that eight persons died in Thursday’s explosion at a gas plant in Nnewi, near Awka. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ali Okechukwu , told NAN that two bodies, a mother and her baby, were later recovered at a nearby building. Okechukwu also described as false the “alarming and misleading figure” of casualty put at over100 by the media.

The Executive Director, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Mrs Uju Baba, on Saturday said that more than 100 foreign investors had visited the country between June and December. Baba, who disclosed this in an interview in Abuja, said Nigeria remained an investment destination in Africa. She, however, said that the investment business was slow, adding, “because we are going through post election period, government activities have slowed down to certain extent and that affects the investment climate”.

  President Muhammadu Buhari has stressed the readiness of his government to persuade members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace peace. Buhari made the pledge on Friday when a delegation of residents of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, comprising of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, paid him Christmas visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
