EFCC’ll arrest more influential Nigerians soon — MAGU

The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Wednesday, said that more influential Nigerians would soon be arrested to face prosecution as the EFCC under him has reinvigorated the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Magu, who made the disclosure during a forum with online and broadcast media managers, in Abuja, said since his appointment as acting chairman of the EFCC, he had undertaken the re-ordering of the agency’s priorities for effective implementation of its mandate.

In Katsina: Diesel tanker crashes, explodes and burn cars, buildings

A truck loaded with diesel on Tuesday crashed and exploded into flames and burnt vehicles and buildings in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many houses and cars were burnt as the truck caught fire at the Kafur junction round-about in Malumfashi. A witness, Kamal Lawal-Nakabo, told NAN that the truck was from Zaria Road and was crossing the round-about to Funtua Road.

How tomato cultivation is taking root in Delta

Like wild fire, commercial tomato cultivation has taken roots in Delta to the extent that its farmers claim that they have the capacity to crash market prices and push the near total dependence on supplies from Northern Nigeria into the dustbin of history in no distant future. Around markets in Asaba, the state capital and environs, a significant proportion of fresh tomatoes supplies are now sourced from a rapid growing league of local growers who are expanding cultivated farmlands by every harvest.

Alleged N300m fraud: EFCC docks ex-PDP boss, Bello, son

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, docked former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dr. Haliru Bello, before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. Bello, a one-time Minister of Defence, was arraigned alongside his son, Abba, on a four-count criminal charge bordering on alleged N300 million fraud. Whereas Bello’s son was charged as the first accused person, a firm, BAM Projects and Properties Limited, which the EFCC said was used to perpetuate the fraud, was cited as the 2nd accused person in the matter.

Lagos tackles unemployment with N25bn Trust Fund Law

Lagos—Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday signed into law the N25 billion Employment Trust Fund, ETF bill, aimed at tackling the high rate of unemployment in the state. Ambode said at the Lagos House, Ikeja, that the signing was a milestone of his administration’s move to tackle the challenges of unemployment through granting of soft loans to individuals for the purpose of making them self-employed, to create wealth. He said one of the promises he made to residents during his campaign was to set up an ETF scheme to address the challenges of unemployment in the state.
