Nigerian Elected International Inner Wheel President
Mrs. Oluyemisi Alatise
Mrs. Oluyemisi Alatise has been elected unopposed the first African International Inner Wheel President for the year 2016/2017. She was elected by over 3,500 Clubs in 100 countries of Inner Wheel world-wide at the weekend.
Yemisi joined Inner Wheel Club of Lagos in 1978. As President of the Club in Lagos, she initiated the Children’s Transit Centre for Lost but Found children at Idi-Araba (the home currently houses over 60 children with an average of 15 children turnover).
She became the District Chairman in 1995/1996 when the foundation of
the Vocational Training Centre for District 911 was laid. The Training
Centre was commissioned by the International Inner Wheel president. She
was elected the National Representative/President for National Governing
Board of Inner Wheel Clubs in Nigeria in 2008/2009 after serving at
various executive positions. Oluyemisi was elected a Board Director in
2010/2011, and elevated Vice President in 2014/15. She will assume the
mantle of the Club for 2016/2017.
Yemisi made her mark internationally through her activities in Inner Wheel Nigeria and in other countries. She has presented many papers at Inner Wheel fora in Stavanger and Istanbul; at Turin; Firenze, Italy; Saint Denis Reunion Island, among many others. She organised the first Women for Africa seminar and started the revolving small credit loan for needy women, which has benefitted many women. IWC of Tapiola Finland low Credit revolving loan for District 913 was also initiated by her.
She handled the International Joint Project with Germany’s District 85 and Nigeria’s Districts 911 and 913 with high integrity and transparency. She has brought succour to Orphan Project Scholarship for the past 15 years. The donation of Abdomen/Virgina and Abdomen Ultrasound Machines to Health Centres. Nigeria’s District 914 benefited from Solar Energy Project from Finland for Ndembia Health Centre in Abakaliki.
International Inner Wheel was founded over 93 years ago in Manchester and the first Club was formed in Lagos in 1967 by Charter President Deji Alakija, (late Kofo Ademola, Mrs. Bank-Anthony, Mrs. Akerele, Bucknour Maclene, Tina Audiferren, Akin George), Mrs. Sherry Kuti, Mrs. Stella Awani, Bukun Oduyoye. Currently, the Nigerian Club has over 18 active clubs.
