Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Olympic Champion, Udo-Obong Foresees Glamorous Race

Olympic Games gold medalist, Enefiok Udo-Obong, believes the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will not only be well organized, but that it will also be glamorous.
Udo-Obong, whose blistering anchor of the men 4x400m at the Sydney 2000 Olympics Games, gave Team Nigeria her first gold medal in the relay, said “with the caliber of people on the Organizing Committee, he is looking forward to a well-organized race.

According to him, "the Chairman, Deji Tinubu, is highly meticulous and a man who pays special attention to little details, there is also Yussuf Alli, a man who been to many local and international championships and organized many local events from the Abuja 2003 All Africa Games, Grand Prix, National trials, Okpekpe Road Races, Aba Marathon and many more. Then there is Tayo Popoola, one the best sports event organizers, as well as other experts in media, security, doping, and other areas, so I expect a very well organized race’’ he noted.
The Athens 2004 Olympic Games bronze medalist believes that Lagos being the capital of entertainment in Africa should expect musicians, actors and actresses plusother classes of entertainment gurus and celebrities to turn up and support the race,
“I won’t be running, but am appealing to Lagosians, especially our celebrities to come out in their thousands to support the race, cheer the runners and make it a day of fun for everybody’’
Udo-Obong posited that Lagos has lost a lot by waiting this long before giving her people a marathon, “this is great for Lagos, very great. The marathon is part of mega cities worldwide and Lagos robbed itself of the immensebenefits of marathon by not having one till now. But am glad we have one now and really appreciate the efforts of Lagos State, the athletics family, sponsors and everybody that worked hard to come up with this initiative. I am positive it will be glamorous and well organized.’’ said Udo-Obong.
