Buhari Charges NSE on Corruption in Projects Execution

Buhari gave the charge in Akure, Ondo State capital, while declaring
open the NSE National Engineering Conference with the theme, "National
Integrated Infrastructure Master Pan (NIIMP) 2014: Strategies for
Implementation".
The president, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government
of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babashir Lawal, said the government cannot
afford to have corrupt elements infiltrate the engineering ranks in
Nigeria.
He said the bane of underdevelopment of Nigeria stems from three social
maladies of insecurity, youth unemployment and corruption.
"We must stem corruption in infrastructural projects execution. This
administration is willing to lend full support in this direction", he
said.
The president noted that Nigeria over the years had daunting challenges in the achievement of sustainable infrastructure.
"We are currently grappling with huge cases of abandoned projects and
poor infrastructure management and several reasons have been advanced
previously to rationalise our current level of infrastructure
development as a nation", he said
Buhari lamented that there had been in recent times cases of sabotaging
Government's efforts at providing infrastructure have become very
rampant.
